To ensure the optimal performance and longevity of your new Ziptek long block, all technicians must strictly adhere to the following Standard Operating Procedure before and during installation.
1. Critical Preparation & Cleaning
- Intake & Exhaust Manifolds: You MUST thoroughly clean the intake and exhaust manifolds before installation. Any residual debris, carbon buildup, or metal shavings left in the manifolds will be sucked into the new engine, causing immediate and catastrophic damage.
- Oil Cooler Replacement: The oil cooler is a highly vulnerable wear-and-tear part. It must be thoroughly inspected and MUST be replaced with a new one if it is damaged, clogged, or heavily contaminated. Failing to replace a compromised oil cooler will push old metal shavings directly into the new long block.
2. Accessory Transfer Guidelines
- When transferring accessories (e.g., oil pan, timing cover) from the old engine, ensure all mating surfaces are completely clean and free of old gasket material.
- Apply the appropriate sealant and tighten all bolts to the OEM specified torque.
3. Engine Rotation & Startup Warnings
- NO REVERSE ROTATION: It is STRICTLY PROHIBITED to rotate the engine in reverse under any circumstances. Reverse rotation can cause severe timing system failure and valve damage.
- Prime the Oil System: Before the initial ignition, the engine oil system must be primed manually to ensure all bearings and moving parts are properly lubricated, preventing dry-start friction.
